The Swirling Hijab
Year 6 have been looking at ‘The Swirling Hijab’ by Na'ima B Robert. In the book a little girl, playing with her mother's hijab, enters an imaginary world where with a swirl of the hijab, she is at once a brave warrior queen, an adventurous nomad in the desert, a beautiful bride and playing inside a bedouin tent.
Rafina Din visited the class to show them how she wears a hijab and explain what it means to her everyday life. We then brought in something special from home and wrote our own book about it aimed at younger children and were then able to share them with the children in Reception and KS1.
